Since the start of the year, we have hosted a number of ‘Open Days’ for prospective families with many taking the opportunity to learn about the ‘St Joseph’s Difference’. During these events, our student Ambassadors led families in small group tours providing countless insights into life at their College.
We are hosting our biennial Community Fun Day on Sunday 17 March from 10am-2pm. Further details regarding the day are in the Community section of this Newsletter.
Enrolments for Year 7 2021 close on Friday 23 August 2019.
Recently, Year 7 students participated in camp activities at the Don Bosco Camp in Safety Beach. I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the boys and witness how they are embracing the many opportunities on offer at St Joseph’s College.
On Sunday 10 February, several students and staff participated in the Salesian Youth Mass at St John the Baptist Church, Clifton Hill. This brought together young adults, youth, parishioners and the Salesians.
The College Swimming Squad will compete in the ACC Swimming Carnival this Friday 22 February at MSAC. Best wishes are extended to all the students, Mr Steve Clarke (Head Coach), Mr Paul Trubiani (Director of Sport) and support staff. I encourage fathers/guardians/mentors of Year 8 students to consider registering for the Father-Son evening being held in the stadium Tuesday 26 February at 7pm. Correspondence has already been sent out to you about this event.
Congratulations to Benjamin Harris (12 Edwards) who is the recipient of the Queen’s Scout Award.
The Burrinja VCE Creative Showcase was held on the evening of Friday 15 February. I extend my thanks to Ms Siobhan Duffy for overseeing our involvement in this very special event. Ed Collins (Class of 2018) was present on the evening and was clearly chuffed to see his work in the gallery space. There were other wonderful entries from past students, Michael Ninh and Leo Li.
Thank you to Miss Bronwyn Dean and Mr Dayne Lawless for their great work supporting several students who performed at the St Paul’s Primary School Community Fair on Saturday 16 February.
We pray for Mrs Jayne Page and her family. Jayne’s father-in-law, Mr Ted Page, died recently.
