The Term 4 APSPA meeting was held recently in Sydney and gathered together Principals from across the Province. Ms Ann Maree Pagon, Director of Religious Education, participated in one of the days in which the 2019 Strenna put forward by The Rector Major, Fr Angel Fernandez Artime, was announced. The Strenna – So that my joy may be in you (John 15:11). Holiness for you, too. Over coming months, the College will reflect on the Strenna and it will serve as a major theme for 2019.
The College received a Certificate of Recognition from the St Vincent de Paul Society recognising the work of our community for the school project ‘Tinnies-4-Vinnies’.
Following seven years of service to the College, Mr Tom Lobbe (pictured far right) leaves to pursue his small business interests. Tom has been public about his battle with mental illness and just what can be achieved with courage, determination and support. He came to help out back in 2012 and now finishes having achieved many goals and developed important skills. Tom was very gracious in his farewell speech, acknowledging the College for its support. He thanked Mr Vin Feeney who gave him a start back in 2012 and was especially grateful to Mr Keith Richards (pictured far left) and Mrs Tracey Ashton who were particularly instrumental in supporting Tom. Also pictured is Mr Gerard Burke speaking about Tom’s great commitment to St Joseph’s College.
With events such as the Year 8 Outdoor Education Camps, Lighthouse Project Presentation Evening and the Valdocco Market, it is important to reflect on the many opportunities students have at this College.
I acknowledge the significant work of staff and students as they begin the end of the school year, finish exams and move into various programs such as ‘HeadStart’. HeadStart provides students with the opportunity to make a smooth transition into their 2019 programs.
All the best for the fortnight ahead.
Ms Cathy Livingston
Principal
