This year, the Outdoor Education Program moved into its second year of the Year 10 Alpine Experience. Students and staff managed to have an incredible time as they developed their skills in downhill skiing, snow-boarding and cross-country skiing. My sincere thanks to Mr James Whiting who led this event along with the support of Mr Tom Fay, Year 10 Leader, Ms Ashleigh Fleming, Year 10 Learning Leader, and all the staff.
Ms Sarah Elijah directed a very successful staging of The Wedding Singer. For students and staff of St Joseph’s College and Mater Christi College, the production week was filled with excitement. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Sarah Elijah, Bronwyn Dean, Siobhan Duffy and all the staff who gave countless hours to ensuring the students had an experience which has shaped their lives.
Our ACC Culinary Team comprising Basil Babu (11 O’Mara), Cameron Locke (11 O’Mara), Ty Renshaw (10 Ledda) and James Sweetten (11 O’Mara) finished 2nd to Parade College. This is an outstanding result. Ms Josephine Wain was committed to preparing the boys, and this greatly helped in ensuring they were able to perform as well as possible.
Richard Kiel (Class of 2017) has been employed at St Joseph’s College this year as a Sports Assistant through a partnership with the AFL Sportsready Program. Recently, Richard has accepted a major contract to play baseball in the USA with an affiliation to the Boston Redsox. We wish him every success for this very exciting stage of his sporting journey. Thanks to our Director of Sport, Mr Paul Trubiani, who mentored Richard this year.
The ACC is holding its biennial ACCent on Music on Tuesday 18 September at Hamer Hall. We have 42 students and three staff involved in the event. I encourage you to purchase tickets which are $20 each http://www.accmelb.com.au/tickets/.
Recently we hosted the Reunion of the Class of 1998. Old Collegians returned to catch up with former classmates and teachers. It was great to welcome the former students back to St Joseph’s College. The tour of the College provided an opportunity to reminisce about school days.
I appreciate the efforts of all involved in Science Week and Languages Week under the leadership of Mr Nick Harvey (Science Leader) and Ms Chiara Giacomuzzi (Languages Leader).
All the best for the fortnight ahead.
Ms Cathy Livingston
