As the term draws to a close, I am reminded of the many achievements of students in the first half of this year. I acknowledge and thank our staff for their generous contribution to the life of St Joseph’s College in supporting students and families.
Over the break, two Year 11 students (Christian Kiel (11 Cantamessa) and William Doyle (11 O’Mara)) will be participating in a Cagliero program in Samoa which connects with our Salesian community abroad. The Occhiena Centre was refitted with new furniture during the term reflecting 21st century learning approaches. It is timely to acknowledge the great work of our Grounds and Maintenance Team. Led by our Property Manager, Mr Keith Richards, the team takes great pride in ensuring that staff and students have a comfortable, clean and safe environment.
Our Kiribati travellers are currently enjoying their time in the Pacific region and are pictured just prior to departure from Melbourne Airport. Zach Miller (10 O’Sullivan) and Yuchen Lai (10 Chambers) are in Japan for the 2018 SOSEP Exchange Program at Meikei College.
Once again, there were very good performances in the various ACC competitions throughout Term 2.
The musical The Wedding Singer will be performed in Upwey at the Burrinja Performing Arts Centre from Wednesday 30 August until Saturday 2 September. Information about purchasing tickets is available later in this Newsletter.
Last week, the Year 8 Soiree was held in Chieri. Thanks to Miss Bronwyn Dean, Ms Sophie Maclure and all the instrumental teachers for leading this event. Students performed extremely well and they are to be commended for their efforts. Mrs Marie Takahashi has resigned to take on a new role in Catholic education. I acknowledge Marie and thank her for her contribution to St Joseph’s College especially in the area of Japanese studies.
We wish Mr Peter Weatherlake well as he will be on leave during Term 3. Welcome back to Ms Marie-Louise Bamford who returns from 12 months in Italy.
